Dr. Bird’s advice for sad poets offers us an exciting and possible solution.

Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets (2021) – The Story
We are going to see the world through the eyes of a 16 years old James Whitman. He suffers from anxiety and panic attack. James has his romantic view of life, but he can’t properly live his life because of his anxiousness.
His sister Jorie was his point of help in his life when he was a child. She knew how to let him overcame his fears and nightmare, introducing him to Dr. Bird. But she disappeared, and he needs to find her. And to do so, Sophie, his true and romantic love, will support him.
In this metaphoric journey, he can potentially find himself and look at life for what it is, not from the distorted perspective of anxiety. The movie will guide us through this adventure, where James will have to overcome many of his fears, challenging life till the point when something will finally happen.
And it will change everything else around him and inside himself. It’s an American’s movie inspired by a novel written by Evan Roskos with the same title, and it is not an easy one.
Nevertheless, we will watch almost 1 hour and 50 minutes of beautiful cinematography and photography and an incredible performance offered by our protagonists.
Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets (2021) – Movie’s Analysis and Rating
The movie delivers a lot, and it does it with elegance and excellent filmmaking. The photography is interesting, and the outcome is enjoyable. So why should you watch Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets?
1. How it approaches mental health conditions
The first reason is that it will show us what anxiety is. The difficulty to stay in the society and live a normal life, for what normal means, by the way. But the second reason I believe is the most important is that it provides a possible solution, a new point of view to overcoming this mental condition.
So I think this is already a significant reason to watch it and recommend it to anyone who experiences this kind of problem.
What is great about this movie is how it approaches his family, friends, thoughts and how later we will discover details about the reality and the other characters. Particulars that we are missing looking just from Jame’s perspective.
And, especially, what we have been missing in our lives, just for fear of approaching reality and then looking from the wrong perspective. And Jame’s family and friends become a small representation of the world, where everyone has his drama to overcome and that even souls less poetic can experience the same condition.
2. Walt Whitman, Sometimes With One I Love and the Poetry of Life.
James shares his surname and thoughts with the great poet Walt Whitman, who also inspired my favourite movie ever, “Dead poets society”. But in our case, our protagonist James. In reality, we will learn what the real poet Whitman taught us, that we wouldn’t have to be afraid to face our future because even a failure will never be regret as long as we know that this was a beautiful experience. That everyone who stops by into our lives will live into us forever.
And we should be thankful and celebrate any situation because we had the opportunity to live each of these experiences. And that we can be afraid or sad, simply because this is what life is.
Sometimes with one I love, I fill myself with rage, for fear I effuse unreturn’d love; But now I think there is no unreturn’d love–the pay is certain, one way or another;Walt Whitman
(I loved a certain person ardently, and my love was not return’d;
Yet out of that, I have written these songs.)
Thanks to what seems a delusion, Walt creates a piece of art. And he celebrates this opportunity life gave him. Not a delusion, but an opportunity. Because even to fail is part of life, where nothing is perfect but needs to be accepted and embraced.
Anxiety is one of the most significant diseases we have, and I’m happy about how this movie approach it and I will suggest you watch it.
